Introduction to Zaragoza - Calatayud
The stunning city of Calatayud is dound 530 metres above sea level in the Sistema Iberico mountain range. The city lies along the banks of the Jalon River, with a stunning backdrop of the mountains, and is famous for its medujar towers, of which the Church of Santa Ana is the most magnificent. The Muslim fortress found in Calatayud is the largest and oldest in the Iberian Peninsula and the impressive Castillo Mayor, also known as Ayyub Castle, dominates the skyline and is not to be missed. Ferdinand II of Aragon, who became the first Catholic king in 1461, built the Gothic Church of San Pedro. Calatayud is the second-largest city in Zaragoza and therefore has an array of Calatayud hotels that will please all budgets.
