Introduction to Valladolid - Aldeyuso
The tiny, charming village of Aldeyuso, well-known for its vineyards, is found just south of Penafiel within the province of Valladolid, the capital of which is located an hour west of the village. This rural getaway is in the heart of Ribera del Duero, one of Spain's northern wine regions set in flat, rocky terrain. Close by Aldeyuso hotels are a number of vineyards and wine cellars producing quality wines, as well as several top quality spas offering treatments based both on the region's wine and on its mineral-rich water. Visitors can spend a day exploring the countryside and the 12th century San Bartolome Church in Fompedraza, found just to the south. Visiting Penafiel could easily take a whole day, with its wine museum, massive 10th century castle and, in the centre of town, the Plaza del Coso. This urban square has been used for bullfighting since medieval times, with the town uniquely possessing the right to auction off seats in the windows, balconies and doorways of the private residences facing the square.
