Introduction to Valencia - Outskirts
One of the largest cities in Spain and home of the national dish, paella, Valencia is becoming an increasingly popular destination among travellers. There are several historical attractions in the old centre, but the City of Arts and Sciences has become one of the most visited places in modern Valencia. It is located around 10kms to the south of the city, on the site of the former River Turia. Hosting the brand new Arts Museum, the Science Museum and the Planetarium, it is a fun place for visitors of all ages. The state-of-the-art IMAX cinema appeals to film buffs. Areas surrounding the City of Arts and Sciences are popular with active types, featuring cycle paths, a boating lake and children’s playgrounds. There are also a number of beaches in the area, just 30 minutes from the city centre by bus. The best of these beaches is El Paler, while Devesa offers a more peaceful alternative. Visitors should note that some of the other beaches are nudist.
