Introduction to Toledo - Almonacid de Toledo
Toledo, in Spain, occupies a location pretty much smack in the centre of the country. Though dominated in so many ways by the city of Toledo, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site, the area of Almonacid de Toledo enjoys other attractions. Hotels in Almonacid de Toledo offer a good travel base outside the confines of the city centre but within range of good transport links. The CM-42 motorway runs a few minutes to the west, putting the historic centre less than 30 minutes away by car. A fantastic castle, thought to have been built by the Moors, attracts many visitors to its impressive hilltop position a few hundred metres to the south. The town, which sits in the shadow of the castle, has a few old buildings of its own worth seeing. The hermitage of Our Lady of Olivia dominates the town and is easy to find. The little town of Paraje de Yegros, which can be reached in less than 30 minutes, is home to the ruins of an old monastery of the Order of Santiago.
