Introduction to Tenerife - Puerto de Santiago
You’d never know that Puerto de Santiago started life as a sleepy fishing village judging from the layers of whitewashed tourist accommodation that creep up the hills behind it. Tourism has completely taken over fishing in this busy resort town on Tenerife’s west coast. Three villages have effectively been consumed by resort development along this stretch of coastline into one large mass. Puerto de Santiago is the most traditional of the three villages. This is where packaged tour operators unload their customers into Puerto de Santiago hotels, and while a bit on the quiet side, it remains a popular destination. Just along the beach is Los Gigantes and Playa de la Arena, the other two massive resort complexes. There is plenty to do in this part of the island, from a number of beaches with water recreation to dozens of options for eating and having an evening drink.
