Introduction to Seville - City Centre
Seville, around 140kms north of Cadiz on the coast, is the principal city in the southeast corner of Spain. The Guadalquivir River flows through the city, with the city centre on the right bank. There are plentiful Seville city centre hotels which allow guests to access all the major city attractions on foot. The 600-year-old St Mary’s Cathedral is just across from the Alcazar palace and its lovely gardens. The cathedral boasts a decorative nave and an iconic statue called El Giraldillo in its bell tower. The Torre del Oro is on the Guadalquivir’s bank and is a lofty 13th century edifice which now houses a museum. Parque Maria Luisa is on the south side of the centre and is home to Plaza de Espana and its grandiose architecture. More museums are situated in the park including the Archaeological Museum, which has Roman mosaics and other relics.
