Introduction to Pyrenees-Catalan - Puigcerda
Puigcerda is a small town of 7,000 inhabitants which is found in the Pyrenees-Catalan region of Spain. The town lies is a valley which is surrounded by mountains and decorated in snow and flourishing wheat fields. By train or by bus, the journey to Puigcerda boasts a number of the Pyrenees' most awe-inspiring views. The location of the town along both the Andorran and French borders ensures it is a cheap base for skiing, biking or hiking in the three countries. The centre of Puigcerda stands on top of a hill, while the train station is found at the bottom of the western slope. The weekly farmers' market offers cheap produce, while Schierbeck Park and lake offer respite. Puigcerda hotels can be found in the Old Town near the 12th century Torre del Campanar while camping is also available. Churches of interest to sightseers include Sant Tomas de Ventajola and Sant Andreu Vilallobent, both in the Romanesque style.
