Introduction to Pyrenees-Catalan - Cardona
Cardona, a town set high on a hill and surrounded by the River Cardoner, makes for a picturesque, relaxing holiday destination. Found in the Pyrenees-Catalan region, around 90kms from Barcelona, Cardona is best known for its history and festivals as well as its stunning natural surroundings. The Castle of Cordona is the town's main draw and the most important fortress in Catalonia, dating back to 886 AD. It features a tower, a beautiful Romanesque church and one of the most luxurious Cardona hotels. The town's 11th century Church of Sant Miguel is a must-see for its impressive painted panels. If visiting in September, the Festa Major and the Aplec de Cardona festival should not be missed. Outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, rafting and horseback riding are available nearby.
