Introduction to Pyrenees-Aragon - Boltana
The northern part of Spain is home to some of the country's finest wilderness areas and national parks. Outdoor lovers flock to the mountains and lakes of the Pyrenees throughout the year for hiking, biking, fishing and boating, making their home base in small villages like Boltana, situated just on the outskirts of a protected area. Just north of Boltana is the popular Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, a UNESCO site with spectacular rock formations, canyons and valleys. The village itself is primarily a stopover for travellers who need to stock up on supplies and grab a meal at one of the local cafes. Several developed campsites and a couple of Boltana hotels give travellers plenty of choice for accommodation, but there isn't much else going on in this sleepy village. The N-260 motorway provides convenient access to Boltana. With no train service in this corner of the Aragon region, it's essential to have your own vehicle to really get around and enjoy all the recreation on offer.
