Introduction to Pontevedra - Vilagarcia de Arousa
The largest town in Spain's Galicia region is Vilagarcia de Arousa, a quaint little port along the western coast of the country. Its expansive marina is a major attraction here, hosting sailors travelling along the coast of Europe. Adjacent to the marina is a nice promenade that contains a number of cafes that face the harbour. There's a small but unimpressive beach next to the bay, useful for an evening stroll on the sand. Vilagarcia de Arousa itself doesn't embody much of that Spanish vibe visitors love so much. Although there are several places to eat, drink and shop in town, there isn't any historic centre or cultural attractions. One rather impressive historic site worth visiting is the Vilagarcia de Arousa monastery and its adjoining fortified tower. It's located right on the edge of town and is easy to reach on foot or by taxi. Visitors will find a few hotels in Vilagarcia de Arousa catering mainly to the boating people that use the town's harbour.
