Introduction to Pontevedra - Lanzada
The region of Spain at Pontevedra and the coastal district of Lanzada are right up in the northeast corner and close to the border with Portugal. The area is well away from the usual tourist haunts of the Costa del Sol and the Costa Blanca so there is a far greater feel of the Spanish culture here. The river which runs through the centre of the Pontevedra gorges into the Atlantic Ocean, where the coastline is rugged, with Playa de Lanzada the centre of attention. The big ocean waves bring out surfers, and for quiet family activity there is a good sandy beach for the kids. While the sandy beach is safe, there are also rocky areas which feature rock pools and curious sea life. Hotels in Lanzada are geared up for both the commercial visitor and the tourist, so there is a good choice. They are all situated very close to the beach and range from three to four-star places. The museum of Casa del Agua is near to the promenade area, but most visitors come here for the Spanish ambiance and the good surfing opportunities.
