Introduction to Pontevedra - Bueu
Just north of Spain's border with Portugal, the Atlantic coastline is broken up in a series of ragged inlets that create some of the country's most visually stimulating coastal scenery. Bueu is one of the small villages in this area, sitting at the end of one of the fingers of land that juts out into the ocean. The port town of Pontevedra is the closest urban centre, providing loads of entertainment and amenities as well as boats to the Atlantic islands of Galicia National Park, just offshore. Most of the Bueu hotels around the village are small, family-run pensions, but they offer unparalleled access to the natural attractions along the coast. Visitors will need a car to really explore the dozens of little coves, beaches and traditional villages in the area, but for a romantic getaway there are few spots that are more inspiring than Bueu and its environs. The small harbour at the edge of town still handles fishing boats that head out each morning. The Masso Museum here provides background about the area.
