Introduction to Ourense - Carballino
Travellers who want to discover a corner of Spain that is truly off the beaten tourist track will find plenty to see and do in the town of Carballino, a provincial centre in the Galicia region. From the town, visitors can reach the Atlantic coast or the border with Portugal in equal time. Like most Spanish towns, the community offers a classic square at its heart, where much of the action takes place. Many of Carballino's restaurants and bars can be found in and around the square, which gently slopes to the Arenteiro River on its western edge. There's a fantastic public park along the river here where people can walk or relax within minutes of the town square. Carballino hotels are mainly pensions and mid-range establishments located right in the town itself. The nearest city of note is Ourense but for a quieter base of operations, Carballino has everything needed to explore this underpromoted part of western Spain.
