Nerja is a municipality on the Spanish Costa del Sol in Malaga Province. The outskirts of the city offer a number of great daytrips. The area's mountain walks provide incredible views over the Mediterranean while its beautiful natural parks are ideal for relaxing and enjoying a family picnic in the sun. One of the most popular places to visit when in the area is the Nerja Caves. Here you can view the spectacular underground caverns with stalagmites, tall columns and stalactites. Each year in July, there is a flamenco music and dance festival which is held inside the caves. These attractions on the outskirts are often within walking distance of the city centre. The town has eight beaches which lie beneath the Sierra Almijara mountain range.
