Introduction to Navarra - Berrioplano
Travellers heading to Pamplona for the annual Running of the Bulls festival can find a quiet refuge in the neighbouring village of Berrioplano. This historic hamlet is just a few minutes' drive to the north of its large neighbour and easily accessible via the N-240a motorway, providing a great place to relax during peak travel periods like the San Fermin festival, yet still close to all the action. There are only two parallel streets in Berrioplano, both of which are interlaced with side lanes connecting them and terminating at the small village square. There are only a few options here for dining or drinking, but the atmosphere is pleasant and decidedly Basque. A handful of Berrioplano hotels take the overflow from Pamplona but also serve as good bases for quick access to the country roads that wind through the scenic Navarra Province of northern Spain. There are dozens of other tiny Basque villages tucked into the hills around Berrioplano that are fun to explore if you have a car.
