Introduction to Merida - City Centre
If there is any interest in the Roman Empire and past Roman activities in Spain, then Merida is the place to visit. Located near the border with Portugal, the city is one which attracts those visitors who are really keen on Spain's rich history. The grand remains of the era of the occupants from the southeast are here in all their glory. The Amphitheatre and the Temple of Diana are just two of the magnificent landmarks in this city which was central to the Romans and their move across Europe in 25 AD. This is also the location for what is considered to be the finest of the Roman remains in Merida. The Puente Romano bridge is still in use and is the longest remaining Roman bridge in Spain.
