Introduction to Menorca - Fornells
The island of Menorca is the smallest of the group in the Mediterranean Balearics, but has an ambiance of exclusivity which many enjoy. The small fishing village of Fornells is situated on the north coast of the island and is one of the less busy parts of Menorca. However, there are facilities here due to its standing as a prime fishing community, with lobster making up the main catch. That makes it a great place to enjoy the best of seafood in the restaurants which line the five-kilometre long beach. With its calm waters, this is also a great place for safe family holidays and the chance to try out water sports. Just outside the town there are the remains of the old fort which staved of the pirates of the region in the 16th century, with the watch tower now the only visual evidence. Hotels in Fornells are mainly located in the town centre or along the coast in nearby Son Parc. Visitors to Menorca appreciate the island's quiet atmosphere and this northern town of Fornells typifies that calm.
