Introduction to Manresa, Spain
Manresa is a Spanish city located in the centre of the Catalonia region of Spain, less than an hour's drive northwest of Barcelona, which can be reached via the E-9. Its city centre is situated on a plain, from where it is possible to view the rocky formations of the mountains of Montserrat Nature Reserve. Houses in the city are built around the impressive Santa Maria de la Seo Basilica. This structure combines both Renaissance and Romanesque elements, but is primarily a Gothic building. In Manresa's historic quarter are remarkable buildings like the Palace of Justice, the City Hall and Pont Vell, a bridge associated with the worshipping of San Ignacio de Loyola. There is also some fine modern architecture on display, with beautiful buildings including the house of Torrents and the tower of Lluvia. Manresa hotels are located throughout the town, with several five-star options, and there are a few recommended restaurants, most of which are found in the La Cuina area, just south of the city centre.
