Each year, over 10 million people visit the sunny Spanish island of Mallorca, also spelled Majorca, on the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore, the wide variety of hotels in Mallorca is not surprising. Most luxury Mallorca hotels and resorts are located in the island’s capital, Palma de Mallorca. The capital’s main hotel areas are its shopping district, where trendier and tinier accommodations are located, and its historic city centre, where older and more stately hotels can be found. Aparthotels, which allow visitors to rent their own apartments while taking advantage of hotel activities, have become especially popular in Mallorca’s northern and eastern areas. Villa rentals, most of which are located in the more isolated western and northern regions, also provide visitors with plenty of privacy. Licensed luxury villas offer a variety of services like rental cars, maids, and breakfasts, while the cheaper villas called casitas aren’t licensed and provide no extra services. Other unique hotels in Mallorca include converted farmhouses or country estates in the island’s smaller towns.
