Jaume was considered a fair ruler and tried to develop trade on the island. Power passed to his two sons on his death but in 1344 Pedro IV of Aragon invaded and re-incorporated Majorca (Mallorca) into the crown. Majorca (Mallorca) saw further periods of insecurity with the War of the Spanish Succession and then the Napoleonic Wars saw a bitter battle between the city of Palma and the yoke of Napoleon in the early 19th century.
