Introduction to Mallorca - Campanet
Travellers searching for an elusive glimpse at traditional Mallorcan life should plan to visit Campanet. This lovely little village in the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains has deliberately shunned the trappings of tourism so common in other towns on Mallorca. As a result, the atmosphere in Campanet is much quieter than that in more famous destinations on the island and the locals still go about their business as they have for centuries. There are only a couple of Campanet hotels on hand but travellers can easily reach the town by car for a fun daytrip off the beach if staying here overnight isn't on the agenda. Like most Spanish towns, the community has a large square at its heart, with a historic church and buildings ringing the perimeter. A major attraction here is the Caves of Campanet, which are open to the public for tours of its magical, subterranean environment. Palma is less than an hour away by road, making this town a great stop on a day of driving around this Balearic island. Visit our Mallorca Travel Guide
