Introduction to Mallorca - Caimari
Exploring Spain's island of Mallorca by car is a popular way to spend a few days. Road carry travellers to scenic towns like Caimari that lie deep within the interior of the island and offer a nice change of pace from the typical, touristy seaside resorts. Caimari is nestled in the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, just off the Ma-13 motorway. Surrounded by olive groves and citrus orchards, this northern region of the island offers some of its finest scenery. Caimari hotels serve as a great base for explorations to neighbouring historic villages like Inca or the 6th century monastery at Lluc. There aren't many places to eat or drink in this sleepy hamlet, but the main square is home to the town's olive press that has an adjoining restaurant. With the city of Palma just 40 minutes away by car, Caimari could be visited as a leisurely daytrip. But to really soak in the tranquil mountain atmosphere, it's best to stay a night or two.
