Introduction to Malaga - Casarabonela
Taking a multi-day road trip through the mountains of Andalucia is one of the highlights of any visit to Spain. There are dozens of tiny, whitewashed villages and towns tucked into the hills, each with its own scene but all containing that classic Moorish influence seen throughout southern Spain. Casarabonela is one of the nicer towns in this region, creeping along the flanks of the Guadalhorce Valley and surrounded by olive groves and orchards. Casarabonela hotels make excellent home bases for daily drives to the other attractions in the area, but the town itself offers lots to see and do. At its heart is the timeless village square with its historic church and clutch of shops and cafes. It's a great place to linger for a few days to relax and take walks in the Sierra de las Nieves National Park that surrounds it. The popular seaside city of Malaga is just 40 minutes south by car, so Casarabonela can easily be enjoyed as a daytrip.
