Introduction to Malaga - Alhaurin de la Torre
Alhaurin de la Torre is a town within the Malaga Metropolitan Area in Spain's southernmost region of Andalusia. The town sits on the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas Mountains, at the opening of Guadalhorce Valley. The Moorish streets and traditional houses in the centre way to more modern villas on the outskirts, nestled amongst citrus and olive groves that have occupied the land for centuries. It is filled with archaeological remains reflecting the town's colourful history that can be traced back to its Phoenician beginnings. Roman, early Christian and Moorish ruins can be found in the Estacion de la Alqueria area of town. Hikes up the mountainside offer breathtaking scenery from greater heights, and canoeing and swimming are popular pastimes on the Guadalhorce River. Evenings in local restaurants will be well spent, as Andalusian cuisine is considered by many to be the most delicious in Spain. Alhaurin de la Torre hotels are only a short drive from the Mediterranean coast, where art and culture is bursting from Picasso's hometown, the city of Malaga.
