Introduction to Madrid - Salamanca South
Salamanca is one of Madrid's 21 districts, and is among the most expensive places to reside in the city. It is situated to the northeast of Madrid's historical centre. Salamance stretches from Avenida de America and Maria de Molida in the north to Calle O'Donnell and Calle de Alcala in the south. Calle de Alcala is actually the city's longest street and stretches for over 10kms all the way to the northeastern suburbs of the city. It is also among the oldest streets in Madrid and houses famous landmarks including the restored Metropolis Building with its Beaux-Arts exterior and Puerta de Alcala, a neo-Classical monumental gate. Also in this district are Plaza de Cibeles, Parque del Ben Retiro, Plaza de Toros Las Ventas and the Spanish Ministry of Education.
