Introduction to Madrid - Chinchon
The medieval town of Chinchon can be found a short distance from the city of Madrid and is a popular place to visit while exploring this part of Spain. One of the main landmarks here is the large Plaza Mayor, which is used as a bullfighting arena on occasions. The plaza is roughly circular and is surrounded by cafes and galleried houses that date back to the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Art lovers travel to Chinchon from all over the globe to venture inside Nuestra Senora de la Ascuncion church as it contains a painting by Goya which depicts the Assumption of the Virgin, while the town's medieval church is also worth visiting. While the town is famed for its rich history and historical buildings, there are also plenty of modern amenities here, such as luxurious Chinchon hotels, shopping centres and bars.
