Introduction to Madrid - Arganda del Rey
A suburb to the southeast of Madrid's city centre, Arganda del Rey has a number of notable buildings and is connected to the capital as part of Line 9 on the city's metro. The area's lesser known sites are well worth exploring in their own right including San Juan Bautista Church, dating back to the end of the 17th century with its well preserved Gothic and Baroque style facade. Even older is Valtierra's Hermitage, which dates back close to 800 years. It is, however, in a severe state of disrepair with just a few walls still standing. Just 10 miles from the centre of Madrid, Arganda del Rey makes a good base for exploring the city, given that its excellent road and rail connections make it just a half-an-hour journey from central areas including Atocha.
