Introduction to Lugo - Viveiro
Lugo is a province and city which hold well-preserves remains of its Roman history, including its ancient walls, which are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the north of Lugo Province is the coastline, which boasts beautiful seaside towns like Viveiro, Ribadeo and Foz. Viveiro is classed as the most important town in the A Marina region and is located on the estuary which goes by the same name, where the River Landro joins the sea. This bustling fishing town preserves three of the gates from its ancient medieval walls. The most prominent of these gates is Porta do Castelo. Walking through the streets in Viveiro, it is possible to view the collection of buildings made up by the San Fransisco church and convent, declared a historic-artistic site. Viveiro hotels are mainly located on the main Ctra de Amarina road which runs through the town on either side of the river.
