Close to the bull-running city of Pamplona and the port of Bilbao in the northwest of Spain, Arnedillo is a tiny but picturesque rural town of just 500 people in the famous wine growing region of Rioja. Although small, the town makes an idyllic base for walking and exploring farther afield. Close by are Sierra de Cebollera National Park and Las Bardenas Reales National Park, both of which offer good hiking and other outdoor pursuits. Many people come here to sample the excellent red wines produced locally in three main regions of La Rioja. With a car, it is possible to visit nearby vineyards to sample and buy what ranks as among the best wine in Spain. The provincial capital Logrono is also just a short drive away, featuring a beautiful cathedral and one of the most celebrated culinary traditions in the country.
