Introduction to Lanzarote - Arrecife
Lanzarote is the easternmost of the Canary Islands and is located about 80 miles off the African coast, in the Atlantic Ocean. Arrecife is situated on the eastern coast of the island and is the capital city. The city gets its name from the rock reef, with 'Arrecife' being Spanish for 'reef'. The pristine beaches of the picturesque coastline here are popular among tourists, and thousands of visitors flock to this part of the island every year. The city is surrounded by areas of natural splendour, and mountains mark the horizon to the north while hills and farmlands are dotted around the rest of the municipality. Arrecife hotels are in high demand and visitors rush to get the beach front accommodations with views of the ocean. The harbour is home to the largest building in the Canary Islands, the Gran Hotel Arrecife. Those looking for a break from the soft sands of Playa Reducto, Arrecife's main beach, can head for the 17th century Castillo de San Jose, today home to exhibitions of modern art.other spellings: arecife otel, arrecive hote, aracife hotles, arreceve hotle, arrecefe hotes
