The Spanish province of Jaen is one of the least-known regions of Spain as regards mass tourism, but one of the most rewarding in terms of heritage and culture. It features two Renaissance cities, Baeza and Ubeda, which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. The provincial capital, Jaen, is rich with history and culture as a former centre for Moorish trade caravans along the Muslim Castilian borders. Imposing heritage buildings vie for attention with rural vistas of olive groves, with high grade olive oil the province's major export. The province's four national parks and many protected areas make it a favourite destination for eco-tourists as well as history buffs, with its 97 small municipalities including Campillo De Arenas, a rural municipality set 17kms from the small town of Iznallos in Les Montes Orientales.
