Introduction to Huelva - Isla Cristina
Isla Cristina is a beach resort located 45kms away from Huelva city. It's particularly popular with tourists because of its fantastic array of sandy and extensive beaches which stretch eight kilometres in length. The area is home to superb windsurfing spots along its coastline. In addition, Isla Cristina is a busy port and has been made famous by its fresh and preserved seafood. The town experiences most of its tourism in July and August when many Isla Cristina hotels increase their charges. Walking around the town's port (Puerto Pesquero), you can view the fishing boats as they unload their catches, either early in the morning or while the sun begins to set in the evening. The port town offers plentiful high quality fish restaurants to select from as well as a number of chiringuitos (summer beach bars) along the beachfront. The main draw, however, is the beaches, some of which hold blue flag status.
