Introduction to Granada - Busquistar
Right on the ramblers' route through the magnificent Treveliz River Gorge, in Spain's Granada Province, is the tiny town of Busquistar, set in glorious scenery with its white-painted homes and Medieval churches. Originally a Moorish settlement, the townhad expanded by the 13th century to encompass nearby hamlets and farms, and was famous for its silks. The Moorish heritage of this remote destination lives on in the ruined Mezquita Mosque, and its 15th century Parish Church of San Filipe and Santiago still gleams white against the wooded hills. The village's narrow streets, terraced cottages and Busquistar hotels come alive in summer, with four major festivals drawing visitors from nearby towns and villages. The August Jazz Festival brings the modern world to the ancient village, and the May festivals of San Felipe, Santiago and Entierro la Zorra emphasise the still-held religious traditions of the valley. June's Fiesta de San Petro y San Pablo sees joyful street parties and the sparkling white walls of the town's houses enlivened with flowering geraniums. Visit our Granada Travel Guide
