Introduction to Fuerteventura - Las Playitas
The island of Fuerteventura is still one of the favourite tourist destinations for Europeans who appreciate its good all-year-round climate, the quality of the accommodation and the beaches. Although Las Playitas features the black volcanic sand found in these Atlantic islands, there are still the excellent water sports and sea-based opportunities to enjoy. Like most of the holiday destinations in the Canaries, Las Playitas started out as a fishing village. Fishing continues, with the produce of the sea providing the ingredients for the many fine seafood restaurants in the town. To complement the restaurants there are hotels in La Playitas which are mainly in the four-star category. Within this area is one of the largest sports training facilities around, so anyone keen to shape up and keep fit can do so at La Playitas. The town is quite convenient for access to the airport, which is about 40 minutes away by car on the FV - 512.
