Introduction to Fuerteventura - El Cotillo
The fishing community in the small village of El Cotillo, to the northwest of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, is seeing the first signs of tourism with new developments in the environs. The rugged coastline, small coves and beaches provide great photograph opportunities and no end of places for swimming in the emerald green sea. The harbour is still a place of great activity as the fishing boats unload their catch. This is also the location for small bars and traditional seafood restaurants which are ideal for that late afternoon drink or evening meal. The development of the village has brought a number of new hotels in El Cotillo, and these are scattered along the local coastline and close to the beaches. The beaches here are wide, sandy and peaceful, but a short walk along the cliffs will reveal the best beach in the area at Playa del Castillo.
