Introduction to Costa Brava - S’Agaro
The Costa Brava is a Spanish coastal region in the northeast of Catalonia, in Girona Province. The coastline here stretches from the French border to Blanes, a resort 60kms to the northeast of Barcelona. Tourism took over from fishing in the 1950s as the area's principal source of business thanks to its good summer climate, excellent beaches and nature. One of the coastline's most delightful coastal resorts is S'Agaro, which is classed as a residential area. This upmarket resort sits on a rocky headland between Sant Feliu and Platja d'Aro. Development started here back in 1924 on a private initiative and the first plans, laid out by Rafael Maso, were developed further in the 1940s by Francesc Folguera using the same refined, classical Noucentisme style. A number of S'Agara hotels line the coast, with a wide range on offer. In addition, the resort has been visited by a number of celebrities and writers over the years due to its beauty.
