Introduction to Cordoba - Cabra
The municipality of Cabra lies in Andalusia's Cordoba region, just 72kms from the historic city of Cordoba. It has strong connections with the Spanish Medieval hero El Cid. Surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, Cabra is part of the Sierras Subbetican Natural Park and contains eight small villages. Not yet on the tourist trail, Cabra boasts an economy that is supported by the manufacture of high-grade olive oil, wine, textiles and wood-working as well as a small metal-working sector. The historic core of Cabra holds many important heritage buildings dating from Medieval times and later, with the 15th century Castle of Condes de Cabra, once the palace of the ruling Conde family, overlooking the town. The 13th century Church of the Assumption has a famous altarpiece and central shrine, and is well-known for its exquisite wood-carvings. Cabra's oldest neighbourhood is Barrio de la Villa. It hold the remnants of old Moorish walls as well as charming narrow streets lined with quaint homes and shops. A choice of Cabra hotels is located close to all attractions.
