Introduction to Collbato, Spain
Collbato is located right along the southern foot of Montserrat Mountain in northern Spain. Famous for its grapes, almonds and olives, the municipality presents visitors with the chance to enjoy a plethora of cuisines. The main landmark here is the Monastery of Montserrat, or Santa Maria de Montserrat, nestled on the mountain, overseeing Collbato. The basilica is simply breathtaking and features works by renowned painters El Greco and Dali and many more artists. Visitors will also find a museum at the monastery showcasing artefacts found in nearby caves. These items illustrate that the town's history dates back to around 4,000 BC. The municipality is also famous for its musical organs, and there still some artisan organ makers in town. Looking up the mountain, visitors can see the ruins of Collbato Castle, which dates back to the 12th century. There are not many Collbato hotels available, with most located close to the A2 motorway on the southern side of the town, yet smaller inns and bed and breakfasts are available in the town centre.
