Introduction to Castellon Plana - Cabanes
Located on the arid, high plains of Castellon Plana in Castellon Province, the tiny village of Cabanes is well-known for its location on the ancient Roman road of Via Augusta and the impressive 2,000-year-old Roman arch set close to the village. Also in the area is the Albalat dels Anecs, an ancient settlement holding the remains of fortified buildings. The main ruins include a 13th century church, later fortified in the 15th century and set at the foot of the castle hill. Although the castle itself is mostly ruined, three better preserved defensive towers are set around the hill. The views from the highest point across the plains are superb, although it's quite a climb to the top. The little town of Cabanes is a historic treasure, with tiny, winding stone-clad streets lined with old homes, pretty churches and several Cabanes hotels. Far from the main tourist trail, the beaches are set in rocky coves, and the 2,000 or so residents of the town welcome visitors to their fiestas and celebrations.other spellings: cabaneshotel, cabane hote, cabaness hotles, cabenes hotle, cebanes hotes
