Introduction to Caceres - Trujillo
Caceres and Trujillo are right on the border with Portugal in the very far west of Spain. The old city of Trujillo has some fine historical sights around the plazas and religious architecture of the hilltop centre. Some of the hotels in Caceres can be found in the old Trujillo city and in the outskirts. The Plaza de Mateo is the location for the ancient convent and church and has all the attributes of an area declared as a World Heritage site. The centre has an old Spanish atmosphere with the impressive San Mateo church and the towering Trujillo Castle at its heart. This 9th century castle is beautifully preserved and is as good an example of Moorish architecture as any to be found in Spain. One of the Caceres hotels is right in the centre of Trujillo and was once a former palace so there are opportunities for some grand living.
