Introduction to Burgos - Plaza Mayor
The city of Burgos, Spain, is situated 240kms north of the country’s capital, Madrid, in the province of Castilla y Leon. The main square is called Plaza Mayor, which can be found just off the Paseo del Espolon and close to Plaza Jose Antonio. Those staying at hotels in Burgos will find themselves within a stone’s throw of the city’s most famous attraction, the Gothic cathedral. This is one of the finest examples of religious architecture in Spain, and the locals are particularly proud of it. Local crusader El Cid Campeador was also laid to rest in a tomb here. Nearby, visitors will find the newly-opened Museum of Human Evolution as well as a plethora of pestrianised streets, pretty promenades and elegant spires. There are also plenty of good restaurants in this part of the city, which boasts a distinctly small-town feel. On the south side of the square, bookish types may well enjoy a visit to the Town Hall (Ayuntamiento). Built in 1791, it houses the Municipal Archives for the entire city.other spellings: plazamayor otel, plasa mayor hote, plza mayer hotles, plaza major hotle, plazamayor
