Introduction to Barcelona - Sagrada Familia
Like a pipe organ of dripping wax, Gaudi’s magnificent Sagrada Familia cathedral is one of the most iconic images of Barcelona. Construction on this incredible piece of imaginative architecture was started in 1882 and isn’t expected to be completed until 2026. But its power is undeniable, and UNESCO has already awarded it World Heritage status. Many parts of the complex are open to the public, including the Passion and Nativity Towers, the Crypt, the Nave, the Museum and a gift shop. This is one attraction not to miss when in Barcelona, even if you just admire the exterior. The Sagrada Familia is located in the heart of the city, making this a great place to stay in one of the many Sagrada Familia hotels in the surrounding blocks. Two metro stations are on hand for easy access to the rest of Barcelona, so there’s really no need for a car. Visit our Barcelona Travel Guide
