Introduction to Barcelona - El Poble Nou
El Poble Nou is a district of Barcelona which abuts the north side of the Spanish city’s historic Ciutat Vella quarter. Although it is a former industrial precinct, long stretches of sandy beach are a major draw for visitors. The proximity of Ciutat Vella and beaches as well as good infrastructure make El Poble Nou hotels convenient options. The district’s metro station is on Line 4 of the Barcelona network, which allows visitors to get to sites such as the unfinished Sagrada Familia cathedral and the Picasso Museum easily. In the district itself, the modern 38-storey Torre Agbar is the most significant landmark. A unique sculpture, the Kiss of Death, is in the district cemetery. Parc del Poble Nou is one of several parks along the seafront. This park has been designed to fit in with its setting and features sand dunes and maritime flora. The promenade stretches around the sands of Mar Bella Beach and is great for jogging and strolling.
