Introduction to Avila - Candeleda
Lying around 150kms west of the capital of Madrid, in the province of Avila, Candeleda is a pretty little town of just over 5,000 inhabitants. It is located at the foot of Almanzor Mountain, which is Spain's highest peak. It is at the entrance to Sierra de Gredos National Park, making it a popular destination among nature enthusiasts. The A5 passes around 30kms south of Candeleda and provides the easiest access to Madrid. The town centre features facilities such as shops, a primary school and a library. There is also a decent choice of restaurants for the town's size, including a number of local options and a pizzeria. Candeleda hotels provide an ideal place to stay for those that plan to explore the surrounding countryside. Located around 10kms to the west is a local golf course which offers visitors to the area recreation of a different kind.
