Introduction to Asturias - Castrillon
Castrillon, a municipality in Spain's Basque region, is located less than five kilometres west of the city of Aviles. It is part of Asturias and has a total population in the region of 22,500 inhabitants. It is known as being one of the region's flattest areas, with the inland area characterised by the landscape's smoothness and the coast made up of cliffs and seven beaches. The main road passing through Castrillon is the A8, which runs west towards Coruna and east towards,Gijon, Santander, Bilbao and San Sebastian. Piedras Blancas is the municipality's capital and just a couple of kilometres from the coast. Salinas is one of the main coastal towns and features Playa de Salinas, a picturesque beach looking onto the Bay of Biscay. The third-most important town is Raices Nuevo, just east of Salinas.
