Introduction to Asturias - Cabrales
Located in Spain's Basque region, Cabrales is a small town in the autonomous community of Asturias that is renowned for its Cabrales cheese. It is situated just a couple of kilometres from the entrance to Picos de Europa National Park, which features stunning, jagged mountains and an array of beautiful flora and fauna. Cabrales hotels provide an excellent base for nature enthusiasts and are particularly popular among keen walkers and hikers, with some challenging trails to be found all over the park. For most of the year, Cabrales is relatively peaceful, although during the summer months there is a heavy influx of tourists and the area becomes livelier. The town has a number of old buildings, many of which have pretty red, white or yellow rendered facades. Visitors are well catered for with a few choices of eateries and bars in the town centre as well as a tourist office.
