The small town of Cabo de Gata is located in Spain's Andalusia region, around 15kms east of Almeria. It is a peaceful retreat which only receives small numbers of tourists, so Cabo de Gata hotels offer an ideal place for those who want to get away from it all. The town has several charming restaurants, with seafood generally being the speciality. There are a few bars as well as services such as a bank and a bus station, with the latter providing transportation to Almeria. There is a beautiful stretch of coarse sand beach to relax and soak up the sun on, and a large lake, the Laguna de Rosa, which is home to flamingos. Taking a stroll along the beach will eventually see you wind up at Faro de Cabo de Gata, the local lighthouse. This location is a southern cape of the cape, and it is possible on a clear day to see Morocco's Rif Mountains.
