South Korea was invaded several times by China and Japan but has managed to retain its traditions and customs. Seoul has been the capital of Korea since it was founded during the Koryo Dynasty but at that time it was called Hansung. It was during the Joseon Dynasty that Seoul began to emerge as a city of culture. Several of the beautiful buildings that were built during this period were demolished by the Japanese when they took over the administration of the country.
It was the Japanese who began to develop Seoul’s transportation network and began to restructure the city. Seoul was badly damaged during the Korean war but was quickly rebuilt. Today it has over 10 million people living within the city limits making it the most densely populated city in the world.
Mingled with the tradition and customs of Seoul is the modern nightlife that you will find across the city. Night activities don’t just include wining, dining and dancing but also include karaoke, visiting an amusement park and enjoying cultural performances.
Seoul is the main gateway into South Korea and has a modern, fully functioning airport. It is very easy for international visitors to get flights into Seoul as the airport services airlines from numerous destinations across the world. Excellent train and bus networks link Seoul to the rest of South Korea allowing for ease of travelling.
