Busan (Pusan) Travel Guide
Beomeo-sa Temple: is one of the three largest temples in the south eastern part of Korea. This Buddhist temple enjoys an ideal location on the eastern slope of Geumjeong-san, boasting many kinds of trees that make the place also perfect for relaxing and admiring exquisite nature. The main shrine, Daeung-jeon, is probably the main highlight of the trip, featuring remarkable craftsmanship of the colourful canopy, altar and lavishly decorated back panel. It is also known as one the most outstanding pieces of woodwork in Buddhist architecture in the Joseon period (1392-1910).
Dongbaek Island: one of the major landmarks in Busan, the ancient island is home to camellias and pine trees. A bronze statue of scholar Choi Chi-won and a monument to his memory can be found on the summit of the island. But what seems to be the most popular with tourists is the statue of a crying mermaid sitting at the seashore underneath the rock wall. The statue represents a mermaid who was married to the King of Mungungnara. She missed her homeland so much she shred tears of longing and yearning to go back home. There’s also a pretty flower garden on the island.
Dalmaji Hill: located southeast of Haeundae Beach, Dalmaji Hill is a cliff where you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the beach below while sipping a cup of coffee at one of the many lovely cafes near the entrance to the hill. This place is also very lively during the lunar year’s first full moon day when the Dalmaji Feast is held. If you are here during this time, you will be able to see many traditional activities and games. Farmer’s music fills the air as a variety of kites paint the clear blue sky.
Taejongdae: is another point where you can witness breathtaking scenic views. From the observation deck, you can see an enchanting white lighthouse and picturesque green sea. You can also take a boat around the Olyuk Islands, and see the famous ‘Suicide Rock’. When the weather is nice, Daema Island (Tsushima in Japanese) can be seen from far away. Taejongdae itself is a park of evergreen trees equipped with many facilities such as a seaside saltwater pool, many shops and sightseeing tours.
