Introduction to Sokcho - Beach
Sokcho Beach is a charming little area of northwest South Korea, just an hour by car from the North Korean border. The beaches in Sokcho are not spectacular but they attract visitors because of their atmosphere at night. There are regular firework parties that see locals and tourists alike congregate on the beach. It is possible to get interesting views of the Sea of Japan from the lighthouse observatory situated on the edge of the main beach. The town is famous for its seafood, with a wonderful outdoor seafood buffet served each night close to the harbour. The town, located on the perimeter of Seoraksan National Park, is a great spot to relax. This mountainous national park has natural attractions such as waterfalls. Sokcho Beach hotels are affordable and limited in number. The beach is only officially open from mid-July to mid-August but is accessible at other times of the year.
